Honeywell TC681ELW Dual View Wireless Digital Weather Station with Analog Quartz Clock Review

Honeywell TC681ELW Dual View Wireless Digital Weather Station with Analog Quartz ClockI got this station not even a week ago and its the worst money that I probably spent. Granted it was only around $50 but trust me you will regret every penny. Its impossible to set the time on this thing since the button that you are supposed to hold onto it doesn't work 90% of the time. When you have it pressed it just literally doesn't move the clock hands and as you take the batteries out and reinsert them it magically starts moving again and when you push the clock set button again same thing happens and it doesn't DO ANYTHING! This is the worst thing Honeywell made...I would not recommend this thing even as a useless piece of firewood or anything you could potentially take out your aggression out on, otherwise you'd be wasting your money.

Sangean RCR-1 Advanced Atomic Clock Radio - Silver Review

Sangean RCR-1 Advanced Atomic Clock Radio - SilverThis clock radio is OUTSTANDING!!! (and it looks great). The time accuracy (atomic clock) is beyond compare. The AM/FM PLL synthesized radio is static free and has excellent sound. Not stereo, but still pleasing! The unit is feature-laden. I love the "Humane Waking System" which gradually ramps up the sound for both alert/radio alarms so as not to jolt you out of bed.I'm a very heavy sleeper, and the adjustable volume for both alarms makes it plenty loud to get up.The independence of both alarms makes this extremely convenient for husband/wife and weekday/weekend settings. Another nice feature is the "nap" function.Set it and the alarm goes off from 10 minutes to 2 hours later, without having to touch the normal alarms. The background light display is a pleasing pastel blue, which changes to orange leting you know that the alarm is serious! The adjustability of the display is excellent, including a dimmer at the push of a button, and completely off if you so desire. I could go on and on about the features of this unit. However, here is where the "but" comes in...the instruction manual is not the most clearly written. The most serious problem, in my opinion, was not being able to pick up the atomic signal.Sure the instruction manual warns you that it might take up to 48 hours to receive the signal. It also warns you that the unit might need to be repositioned to receive the signal.I was frustrated after not getting the signal for a couple of days. Then I noticed that the back of the radio has a circular slot for the rectangular "block-shaped" atomic signal antenna.Once I put the antenna in the slot, the signal was received, and has been maintained ever since. This was NOTstated in the instruction manual. Another minor criticism is there are 14 (7 AM and 7FM) presets, not 21 as stated in the manual.14 is more than enough for me.The alarm instructions took some patience to learn. These criticisms of the instruction manual should in no way detract from the features and quality of the product, both of which are excellent.Buy this and you will be extremely happy.Just be patient and fiddle around with it.Nothing beats trial and error when it comes to high-tech gadgets.

Sangean RCR-5 Digital AM/FM Clock Radio Review

Sangean RCR-5 Digital AM/FM Clock RadioI have nothing but praise for the Sangean RCR-5 clock radio.Specifically, here are the most noteworthy aspects of this truly amazing product:

Display
Here is where the RCR-5 truly shines, as it incorporates a backlit LCD with adjustable intensity:one may adjust the backlight to suit your needs, so you have a perfectly legible, yet not too bright display (at night) which can never be "washed out", even in direct sunlight. The display even has a clever feature whereby it will illuminate to full intensity when any of the buttons are pressed, after which it returns to the user's preset intensity after ten seconds. As you can see from the product photos, the display is of a soft, warm color, most conducive to a good sleeping environment; other clock radios using bright blue or green illumination, IMHO, should be avoided if you want to get any sleep.

Auxiliary Input
Very useful for listening to my podcasts at night; when an external source is attached, the Band button will cycle through AM/FM/AU; when none is attached, only AM/FM are available, thereby eliminating "clutter" for those who do not wish to enable this feature.(Note:I'm old-school, and prefer using this method over a "Dockable" iPod solution, as I prefer to completely run my iPod's battery source to zero before recharging...)

Flexibility in Programming
Only found on more expensive clock radios, this model will allow you to use the "Sleep" feature to listen to a particular station (or podcast with the Auxiliaryfeature) at night, and then to wake to radio on a different station. In addition, all alarms allow Daily, Mon-Fri, or Single, with the Audible Alarm using a gentle "ramp-up" feature.

Reception and Speaker Quality
The radio's receiver portion of this product is very good, rivaled by only my Sony short wave receiver (a great radio, by the way!); what looks like a 3-inch speaker provides a very warm, intelligible output, very suitable for the spoken word, adequate for music. If you need a strong system for powerful music, I would suggest purchasing an additional desktop speaker setup (such as for a computer) which can be attached to the headphone output by means of a standard mini-jack connection.

Finally, a no-nonsense Sleep function
Sangean has cleverly incorporated the Sleep function into the Power button (which is gently illuminated when the radio's off); to turn the radio on or off, press the button. To use the Sleep feature, press and hold the same button to select up to 120 minutes.Simple, effective, "it just works".

Final Recommendation
Well, what more can I say? This product works for me (and I'm purchasing three more for gifts) and has a lot going for it, including high value (very reasonably priced!).Is there anything that you should be aware of?Yes:

>As described in the previous customer's entry, setting the alarm may require a few extra key-strokes, as this product offers many options when it comes to waking by either the alarm or the radio; if you do not need all of these features, you may wish to consider something of simpler means. That being said, it took me only about 22 seconds to set the alarm; for me, it was relatively intuitive and logical.

>The built-in battery back up feature only works for about ten minutes worth of backup, according to the manual; in my neck of the woods, this is not a big issue, but should be noted if you experience many nighttime blackouts where you are located.

>Even though this model is referred to as an "RCR-5", it should be noted that it does not employ an automatic time synchronization feature as is found on Sangean's higher end clock radios.(Not a big issue for me, and may actually be desirable for those of us who prefer to set our clocks 5, 10, or 15 minutes fast to "keep us on time"!)

I hope this helps you in making the right decision! All the best!

Electric Alarm Clock with Selectable Display Color Review

Electric Alarm Clock with Selectable Display ColorThis is a plug in clock with a battery backup (which is not entirely clear from the description). It is very small (definitely fits in the palm of your hand) but has a very clear LCD. I like that you can customize the color for the display but I found the basic blue shown in the picture works the best. It is perfect as a second clock for the other side of the bed--presuming there are two people.

American Innovative Neverlate 7-Day Alarm Clock Review

American Innovative Neverlate 7-Day Alarm ClockI bought this clock because of it's fantastic ability to have a separate alarm for each day of the week, something that just makes a lot of sense and should be standard on every alarm clock. This one feature works exactly as advertised, and is very easy and intuitive to use and configure. The clock has a unique style to it, with a sort of retro look going on, and it doesn't take up a lot of space. It is higher than most clocks but compensates with a smaller footprint. The standard features like nap and snooze all work well and are easy to configure.

The problem with this clock comes down to the fact that several corners were cut to make it as cheap as possible to produce. The radio has an old style analog tuner (albeit a slightly better one than most clock radios out there). This is 2005, and one would think that digital tuners would be a standard by now. Unless you enjoy listening to one and only one radio station, you will find the analog tuner a pain.

The sound quality of the radio is also very average. It's not bad by any means, and the reception is very good, but like many clock radios it has zero lower end sound (ie bass). The radio also makes an annoying 'pop' when you turn it on or the alarm kicks in. It is a very minor sound, but I expect better. My 15 year old $10 clock radio makes the exact same noise when the radio kicks in.

Another problem I have with it is the lighting of the LCD screen. In my opinion it is just bright enough to make nobody happy. It is slightly too dim to see well during the day, and it is slightly too bright to be comfortable at night. I have lived with old school clock radios my entire life, with the glowing red numbers. These clocks produce almost no light, which is what I like. If you are used to the new style clocks that choose to backlight the entire display instead of just the numbers, then this will be no problem for you, but if you are like me and like a clock that puts out a minimal amount of light, you won't like this clock. Would an adjustable brightness really cost that much more? Or how about a light sensor that would adjust automatically?

I really wanted to like this clock, but the lack of a digital tuner and the annoying brightness / lack thereof make this clock all but useless to me. Still, I do recommend the clock over most other clocks out there. If you can get past the analog tuner and poor display, you will be happy with this product.

PROS:
- 7 day alarm feature
- very easy to configure
- unique design and good button layout

CONS:
- very average sound
- no digital tuner
- hard to see the display during the day
- display too bright at night

Product Description:
Why bother setting the alarm clock daily when one can preset rising times for every day of the week with American Innovative's Neverlate 7-day alarm clock? With seven individual alarms for each day Monday through Sunday, users can tailor the 120-volt alarm clock's settings according to their unique schedules. The clock is ideal for individuals who work different shifts day to day, college students with their varied class schedules, or anyone who needs to rise early on certain days of the week.
With its analog AM/FM radio, the clock allows the user to choose between buzzer and radio alarms. Two dials on the front of the clock are provided for searching radio stations and regulating volume. To change the radio from AM to FM, press the band button, located on top of the unit along with the radio on/off button, and buttons for clock set-up and adjusting the sleep and nap timers. The rotary mode knob on top of the clock selects the day of the week while the inset rotary value knob sets alarm times. For slow risers, the clock includes a customizable snooze function with durations of up to 30 minutes between alerts. An LCD screen displays the time in military or 12-hour format, the day of week, and active settings and functions. With low and high brightness options, a backlight illuminates the screen. In the event of relocation or a power outage, protect clock settings with the battery back-up. Battery back-up requires the separate purchase and installation of two AAA batteries. For thorough instructions and clock information, a product manual is available for download online. This item is covered by a limited 90-day warranty. The alarm clock measures 5-by-4-1/2-by-5 inches and weighs 2 pounds upon shipping.

Emerson CKS1702 SmartSet Alarm Clock Radio Review

Emerson CKS1702 SmartSet Alarm Clock RadioThis thing is pretty nice because if the power goes out it'll automatically reset to the correct time (either the one set at the factory or the one that you've tweaked, if the factory preset was a bit off). It's not atomic, but it's the next best thing. The radio comes in pretty good too, depending on how you have the antenna positioned (the FM antenna is built into the power cable, and the AM antenna is an iron rod built into the case). It keeps the time when the power is out by way of a small lithium "button" battery. The instructions say that, depending on how long it was on the shelf at the store, the battery could last up to 5 years and that when it does get low a light will flash in the bottom-right corner to alert you. It can even be set to awake you at different times set by you on weekdays or weekends, although the process to do this is a bit convoluted, but if you read the instructions carefully it's easy enough. You can set the alarm to wake you up by way of the radio, or a beeping noise. The beep should awaken even the heaviest of sleepers (after all, it wakes me up). The instructions say that the beeping will rise in volume until you press the alarm button to reset it until the same time next day, or until you press the snooze button to make it sound again in 8 or 9 minutes (can't remember the exact number). Just make sure you don't press the snooze button 7 times or it will NOT sound again until the next day! So keep track of how many times you push the snooze button, get up the first time or risk oversleeping. Overall, this is a very nice, affordable alarm clock. I must also say that the instructions are very informative and easy to understand.
