I have had this radio for about 7 YEARS, and my children grew up playing CD's on it. They dropped to the floor many times. It even continues playing upside down. At this point I think it's indestructible. I'm so glad I bought it when I did.

jWIN Pocket AM/FM Alarm Clock - Silver (JXM10SIL) Review

You get what you pay for. That's still true. The station tuning button didn't work well. When I tune in for a station, the station number didn't show up correctly. The radio station that shows on the front window always screw up. I get some stations though. It would be good enough for those listening to a few stations (not radio surf) and stick with them. I bought it for the speaker feature. Not many small or tiny radios have the speaker function, most require a headphone. I give it a small credit for its overall small size and the decent sound that comes out of its tiny speaker.

Coby CDSH287 AM/FM Alarm Clock Shower Radio with Stereo CD Player Review

I wouldn't waste your money on buying this.. mine broke after two weeks in a dry room tempature place. Meaning, it wasn't because I got water in it because its a "shower" radio.. I never tested that out but if I did it would of probably broke even sooner. I'm very disappointed :(

Tivoli Audio SongBook AM / FM Alarm Clock Travel Radio, Green Review

The new Tivoli Songbook is one sweet, versatile radio.I was reluctant to order it because it was brand new model and I couldn't find any reviews, but I'm glad I overcame my reluctance and purchased this radio.I consider it expensive for an AM/FM radio so I expect serious performance for the money--I was not disappointed.It's Tivoli, so I expected sound quality and Tivoli delivers.The sound isn't quite as full as the Model One, but it's more than adequate.For talk radio, it's simply the best sound I've heard from any radio.

One reason I hesitated purchasing was because I planned to use this as a table radio more than a travel radio--the lack of external antenna jacks was a concern because I have trouble with AM reception in my area.The real surprise was the reception--this small radio locked on and pulled in signals that I have trouble pulling in with some of my better radios like the GE Superadio or Grundig Satellit 800--all while delivering a clear, clean signal.Admittedly, I'm not a DXer, and I'm not suggesting this is the radio for that purpose, but it's performance, particularily on AM, is impressive for such a small package.

Performance was great using the aux input on a Sirius tuner as well as MP3 and CD.

Overall, it has the look and feel--as well as performance--of a quality product.

One thing that you should be aware of--this model uses an outboard transformer--a relatively large wall wart.That negates some of the travel versatility, IMO, but isn't a problem for home use. One of the smart design features is the wall hang slot on the back--I promptly mounted the thing over my nightstand and cleared off the space formerly eaten up by my cheap, tinny sounding clock radio.

It's a rare day that a product meets my expectations, much less exceeds them, but this is a great radio!

Think about the humble clock-radio.Everybody has one. They've scarcely changed in the last two decades.They have poor sound quality.Are usually in a bedroom where radio reception can be poor--and are usually given only a crummy wire antenna sticking out the back. With some, you can play a CD, just as CDs are being superseded by other digital music. Few can access the wealth of programming on satellite.Not a twenty-first century device.

Sangean RCR-5 Digital AM/FM Clock Radio Review

I have nothing but praise for the Sangean RCR-5 clock radio.Specifically, here are the most noteworthy aspects of this truly amazing product:

Display
Here is where the RCR-5 truly shines, as it incorporates a backlit LCD with adjustable intensity:one may adjust the backlight to suit your needs, so you have a perfectly legible, yet not too bright display (at night) which can never be "washed out", even in direct sunlight.The display even has a clever feature whereby it will illuminate to full intensity when any of the buttons are pressed, after which it returns to the user's preset intensity after ten seconds. As you can see from the product photos, the display is of a soft, warm color, most conducive to a good sleeping environment; other clock radios using bright blue or green illumination, IMHO, should be avoided if you want to get any sleep.

Auxiliary Input
Very useful for listening to my podcasts at night; when an external source is attached, the Band button will cycle through AM/FM/AU; when none is attached, only AM/FM are available, thereby eliminating "clutter" for those who do not wish to enable this feature.(Note:I'm old-school, and prefer using this method over a "Dockable" iPod solution, as I prefer to completely run my iPod's battery source to zero before recharging...)

Flexibility in Programming
Only found on more expensive clock radios, this model will allow you to use the "Sleep" feature to listen to a particular station (or podcast with the Auxiliaryfeature) at night, and then to wake to radio on a different station.In addition, all alarms allow Daily, Mon-Fri, or Single, with the Audible Alarm using a gentle "ramp-up" feature.

Reception and Speaker Quality
The radio's receiver portion of this product is very good, rivaled by only my Sony short wave receiver (a great radio, by the way!); what looks like a 3-inch speaker provides a very warm, intelligible output, very suitable for the spoken word, adequate for music.If you need a strong system for powerful music, I would suggest purchasing an additional desktop speaker setup (such as for a computer) which can be attached to the headphone output by means of a standard mini-jack connection.

Finally, a no-nonsense Sleep function
Sangean has cleverly incorporated the Sleep function into the Power button (which is gently illuminated when the radio's off); to turn the radio on or off, press the button.To use the Sleep feature, press and hold the same button to select up to 120 minutes.Simple, effective, "it just works".

Final Recommendation
Well, what more can I say?This product works for me (and I'm purchasing three more for gifts) and has a lot going for it, including high value (very reasonably priced!).Is there anything that you should be aware of?Yes:

>As described in the previous customer's entry, setting the alarm may require a few extra key-strokes, as this product offers many options when it comes to waking by either the alarm or the radio; if you do not need all of these features, you may wish to consider something of simpler means.That being said, it took me only about 22 seconds to set the alarm; for me, it was relatively intuitive and logical.

>The built-in battery back up feature only works for about ten minutes worth of backup, according to the manual; in my neck of the woods, this is not a big issue, but should be noted if you experience many nighttime blackouts where you are located.

>Even though this model is referred to as an "RCR-5", it should be noted that it does not employ an automatic time synchronization feature as is found on Sangean's higher end clock radios.(Not a big issue for me, and may actually be desirable for those of us who prefer to set our clocks 5, 10, or 15 minutes fast to "keep us on time"!)

I was looking for a radio that supports my iTouch and iPhone, looks modern, has a small footprint on my desk, and sounds good.I got all of those features.The only feature I did not get was an audio out so that I could plug in my external speakers. Hence, only four stars. I use Pandora and other iTouch apps that play music, and they all work seamlessly. The sound is remarkably good, especially considering the size. Also a plus is the support that stabilizes the iTouch when it is docked. You don't feel like you will break off the connectors when you push on the iTouch.

Sangean RCR-2 Digital Atomic Clock Radio with Dual Alarms Review

I spent a lot of time trying to find the perfect alarm clock for my bedroom and, as you can tell, I am still looking. The Sangean RCR-2 certainly has some attractive features like the atomic clock, which took a few hours to set itself, and the nice styling but it fails in so many areas as an alarm clock. First, and most importantly, the display is unreadable. It is very busy with lots of symbols and numbers but using very thin LCD numerals for the time and the off axis viewing angle is very small; you must basically face it head on. Worst of all, however, is the blindingly bright orange backlight with makes is impossible for night adjusted eyes to read the display if you want to check the time in the middle of the night. It is so bright as to cast shadows throughout the room. I keep it across the room but I can't imagine trying to sleep with this minor sun positioned on the nightstand.Sure, you can turn off the backlight but then the clock is invisible at night. Maybe LEDs are not cool but they make a lot more sense for an alarm clock. Also, it takes at least four button presses to turn on the alarm as opposed to one on my old alarm.
